There is so much hope that the criss-crossing of Africa by fibre optic cables will change dramatically the destiny of Africans.
I don't think so. The technology is only a subsystem of yet a bigger system that is part of a suprasystem. Unless we are able to use the system approach and flush out some other areas that need immediate attention it will take us a long, long time to start reaping the benefits of ICT.
The future scenario is most likely with such advancement African can recede to the undemocratic and closed system of China, Iran, North Korea and others who fear the mind and word of man than any other weapon !
African rebirth cannot start unless we realize that we as countries are part of a larger system that is interconnected and interrelated and to reap the various benefits and synergies we need working together more closely than with any other system!
